Two Cities Book Award 2024

Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking 10 year 10 students to King Edwards School (in Birmingham) to take part in Two Cities Book Award 2024. This award started 3 years ago to inspire 14–18-year-olds to read for pleasure.

Students were able to: meet and speak with two of the short-listed authors (Ashley Hickson-Lovence and Bex Hogan), learn about their inspirations and backgrounds as well as hear some readings from their book. Through the Q and A, we were able to get advice on novel writing, writers’ block and learn about the editing/publishing process. We also had the honour of hearing two poems from Birmingham’s young poet laureate (12-year-old Japmeh Kaur Gujral).

A massive congratulations to Ashley Hickson-Lovence who won the award for his novel, Wild East. This was actually the novel which our students enjoyed the most!

On our way out we were delighted to have a personal tour of the school’s library.
